Cyber Savvy Parenting: Navigating Your Child’s Online World

Have you talked to your child about their online activity?

Oftentimes, we hear news stories about endangered kids and the parents often say...

"We didn't know."

"We had no idea our child was doing that."

Be the parent who is talking to your children about the cybercriminals who pretend to be their friend, peers, or love interests.

Kids are vulnerable and likely to believe what these experienced criminals tell them. Before you think your kids won’t do it, understand that cybercriminals are professionals at slowly building relationships and bonds with kids. This is even easier when their is no parental voice guiding the child.

Talk to your kids about the dangers of sexploitation. They can be tricked into posing for inappropriate photos and sharing them with who they believe they can trust. Then they are blackmailed to keep the criminal from sharing the pics online or with parents. This can turn their lives into a nightmare that you are unaware of.

Parents worry about violating their child’s privacy. It’s not a violation to track your child’s activity online any more than it is to know their whereabouts. It’s called parenting and being connected. If they are in danger and being preyed upon, the parent who gives their kid "space" have no clue until it’s too late.

Generative Artificial Intelligence/AI is a big threat to cybersecurity. It amplifies the crimes. You need to be AI cyberaware so that you can stay safe and protect your kids from this growing threat.

Deepfake images look realistic and can easily fool unknowing kids into believing the images of products for sale online that don’t exist. It’s a way to scam kids with these AI created websites, too. They can create realistic images of people kids are likely to trust, who don’t exist.

Cybercriminals can create an online persona and create social media profiles with well-written AI generated content specific to kids.

My passion is teaching how to use the tools safely and how cybercriminals are using them to scam and defraud us. Knowledge is power.

I’m completing my cybersecurity ebook and coloring book for kids.
